San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden: First 5 San Luis Obispo County Grant Recipient!
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA –The San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden (SLOBG) is the recipient of a generous
$100,000 grant from First 5 San Luis Obispo County, which advocates for and allocates funding to
programs in SLO County that improve the lives of children from prenatal through age 5.
The funding SLOBG has received from First 5 San Luis Obispo County will go to support our Early
Childhood Nature Based Experiences and Professional Development for the January 1, 2022 – June 30,
2024 term. Dr. Nisha AbdulCader, local pediatrician specializing in early childhood development,
perinatal substance exposure, adverse childhood events and trauma informed practices and SLOBG
Board of Directors Member says, “SLOBG intends to partner with Center for Family Strengthening for
support around building trauma informed resilience focused programs.”
The Garden will be hiring a part time Youth and Family Programs Director, who will implement and
oversee the programs proposed in this grant. The San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden will work to expand
access and programming in the SLOBG Children’s Garden, to provide an increased capacity for naturebased
experiences, education, and wellness, to all children of San Luis Obispo County for children
prenatal to five years old and their families.
This recognition not only supports First 5 San Luis Obispo County and its partners, but more importantly
it recognizes the critical growth, development and learning that take place in early childhood. First 5 San
Luis Obispo County is a local independent government agency which works with its Commission and
community partners to make sure children thrive in nurturing, respectful environments and enter school
healthy and ready to learn. First 5 San Luis Obispo County is a strong voice for children in this county,
speaking up for needed programs, increased funding, enhanced awareness and understanding, and
stronger partnerships that benefit children and families as a whole.
As a grant recipient, the SLOBG is a partner in our mission to support children and families. Contact
